Description

The coach is responsible for all aspects of directing the teams practice and play in games. Most of the participants will have previous experience playing Basketball, but others will be playing their first organized basketball. Each team will have about 8-10 players with one or two assistant coaches.

Activities and Responsibilities

  1. To teach Basketball through the use of the games approach and through effectively planned practices at a level appropriate for each member of the team.
  2. To organize the players to participate in games and coach them during the games.
  3. To encourage parent involvement and coordinate their assistance.
  4. To provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all players, giving each child an equal opportunity to participate.
  5. To communicate with the League President & Division Commissioners on all matters of policy.
  6. To serve as a positive role model to players, parents, officials, and fellow coaches by following all rules, demonstrating good sportsmanship.
  7. To communicate good health and fitness principles and positive character development concepts to players, parents, and spectators.

Qualifications

  1. Must have attended the coaches meeting or have reviewed the guidelines and rules prior to the first practice.
  2. Must be of sound mind and good character.
